Bradbeers Furniture Rental

Happy young woman on white sofa with laptopWe hire household furniture to private and corporate clients throughout England. We can also supply furnishings, lamps, pictures, linen, kitchen appliances, audio, TVs, video equipment, and more as part of a furnishing package, either for your own use or for home-staging, show houses, etc.

Our rental prices are very competitive, with a price-match pledge. The resources of our long-established parent company include department stores and a removals business, enabling us to offer a wide range of items for hire, and our own fleet of vehicles with trained crews for deliveries.

Tax implications: Hiring furniture can be tax-efficient, too. VAT-registered companies can recover VAT on rental charges, and payments for furniture rental are fully deductible as a business expense (UK Tax Act, Section 74).

Why Rent Furniture?

Hiring furniture can often be the best option both for private clients and companies.

Relocators, relocatees, expatriates, assignees-in: Are you and/or your family faced with the need to live for a limited period in an area of the UK where you don't already have a home, or where your home isn't ready yet? Or are you a relocation agent, letting agent, or HR specialist making arrangements for people in that position? What are the options?

Hotels are a very expensive solution for anything more than a short stay, and can be stressful, especially, for other family members.
Serviced accommodation gets you some more living space, but is very expensive.
You could rent furnished accommodation but the furniture and household goods that come with it probably won't be what you (or your clients) would have chosen.
Or you could rent unfurnished accommodation and buy the necessary contents but buying a house-full of new furniture, furnishings, and other household equipment takes time and involves major capital outlay. Once you've bought it all, depreciation is steep and disposal can be a problem, however short your stay, you won't be able to recoup more than a fraction of what you paid.
Compared to any of the above, renting unfurnished accommodation and hiring furniture and other household goods can be an attractive and cost-effective option. For short/medium stays it can be more economic and less hassle than shipping your own furniture here. Click here for some cost comparisons. For longer stays, hiring furniture can also make good sense, either for the duration of the assignment, or to bridge the gap until your own furniture arrives (or departs). Furniture from the USA and some other countries won't always fit into UK houses, which tend to be smaller. Using hired furniture in the UK accommodation (or in place of some of your own furniture) overcomes this problem.

Land Lords & Developers

With rental furniture you can quickly and conveniently furnish empty property, or achieve a makeover by replacing existing furnishings. And you can furnish up or down in quality to suit the accommodation and tenant (Bradbeers offer two quality grades).

House-sellers: Rental furniture is the perfect way to improve the saleability of show houses/showhomes and other property for sale. It can transform an uninviting unfurnished house (or a poorly furnished or underfurnished one) into an attractive home that people will want to buy.

Bradbeers Furniture Rental

Happy woman at table in luxury furnished houseThe following plus points make Bradbeers Furniture Rental hard to beat.

Price
You'll find our furniture rental rates are very competitive. Just compare them - and the rest of our plus points - with other furniture hire companies. We offer a price-match scheme across our complete home furniture rental product range. If you obtain - and fax to us prior to booking - a lower quotation from a (South Coast-based) competitor, for similar quality items, we will match that price and provide a free clock radio for each bedroom furnished for the duration of the hire.

Quality
Most of the goods we supply for hire are from "name" manufacturers. Even our Standard range of rental furniture is generally of better quality than the usual run of furniture at "warehouse-type" retail outlets.

Speed
We can provide a quotation within hours, and deliver the furniture within days.

Resources
As part of Smith Bradbeer & Co, we can use the resources of the Bradbeer department stores and the Bradbeer removals and storage business.
This means: We have a large "pool" of domestic furniture, furnishings, and other household goods available for hire. So these items are readily available for home use, or for home staging (sometimes called "house dressing") properties for sale, or for furnishing properties for letting.
We have our own purpose-built vehicles and trained staff to deliver the goods you order.
We can offer storage facilities as well as rental furniture. So, for example, if you are an assignee-in to the UK and you find that some of your shipped-in furniture will not fit into your UK accommodation (which tends to be smaller), we can not only provide suitable substitutes but we can also store surplus items in purpose-built containers in our own storage facility until you move on. Few other UK furniture-rental companies can provide this service.
A long-established company. Furniture rental is a fairly new business in the UK, and some companies in the field have been established for only a year or two. By contrast, Bradbeers have been trading successfully since 1837! You don't need to worry about Bradbeers being a "here today, gone tomorrow" outfit.

Flexibility
We can supply anything from a single item to a total house-contents package, for hire periods ranging from one day to forever! If you decide to buy new items, or you want to ship home some of the items we've rented to you, we can arrange that too.

Product range
We supply two grades of furniture and furnishings, to cater for all requirements. This benefits both private and company clients. Landlords, for example, can furnish up or down in quality to suit the property or tenant.

Safety
All our rental furnishings meet current European standards for fire resistance and safety.

FAQ's

How much does furniture rental cost?
The quickest way to find out is to complete the Quotation Request form on this website. If you do not have an email address to which we can send the quote, you can submit your request by telephone, fax, mail, or in person at one of our showrooms. A comprehensive quotation will be prepared within hours.

Can I choose my furniture from a catalogue or showroom?
Because we purchase a wide range of individual items, the majority of which are on hire at any given time, it is impractical for us to maintain a showroom or catalogue.

Once we know your requirements, your start date, and how long you want to hire for, our staff will allocate available Standard grade items based on any stated preferences. If you plan to hire from our Superior grade, available options from our web-site gallery are offered to you, together with emailed images of any other suitable stock items, for you to make a choice.

What is the difference between Standard and Superior grade items?
Cost-wise around 30%. All our furniture is considered to be above the quality you'd generally find at "retail warehouse" type outlets. However, Standard items are ideal for emergencies, short-term rentals, buy-to-let and similar situations. Superior grade is aimed not just at domestic hirers who are happy to pay that little bit extra, but also at show-homes, corporate housing, film and TV sets etc. The choice, of course, is yours.

How much notice do I have to give for delivery?
Days - in an emergency! A week normally.

What is the minimum rental period?
One day!

Do I have to hire a whole house-full of furniture?
No. We believe in allowing you to pay for just what you need! However, if you live some distance from our Hampshire warehouse it will be expensive for us to supply just a few items for a short period. It may be more economical to buy from our new stock instead.

Is the hire furniture new?
Sometimes. As an expanding company we have new items continuously entering the supply chain. However all items are scrupulously checked and refurbished where necessary before re-use.

Can I rent a new mattress?
This question is often asked by clients who spent the previous night on a hotel bed! The answer is yes – but at a premium rate. Be assured that all mattresses are fitted with new mattress protectors before reuse.

Does Bradbeers furniture comply with current Furniture and Furnishings Regulations?
Yes.

I've heard that rental furniture can be dull and characterless. Is this true?
No. Bradbeers purchase limited numbers of individual products to provide the broadest range of rental furniture and furnishings available.

Why do Bradbeers quotations specify access requirements?
We want you to be happy with the rental furniture, and so we need to ensure that adequate preparations are made for its arrival. If where you live has parking problems, narrow staircase or doorway, is above a first floor without a lift, or if there is some other potential difficulty, we need to know in advance so that this can be remedied. It is in your interest to pre-advise us of any such problems to ensure that we can deliver what you want, when you want it.

Do I have to attend delivery/collection?
No, but we will need your representative to check the items to ensure they are correct.

What if I forget something?
We can correct any errors or omissions discovered at the time of delivery but please check the inventory thoroughly before delivery as the transport costs involved in correcting an error are considerable.

Why does Bradbeers Furniture Rental show VAT separately?
Most of our clients are corporate - or the expense is recoverable by a company - where the Value Added Tax (currently 17.5%) is reclaimable and so we quote the net cost involved to the company.

What if an item fails or is damaged by me?
See our terms and conditions.

How can I convert feet and inches to the metric system?
Multiply total inches (one foot=12 inches) by 2.54 to convert to centimetres. Some useful conversions for our rental items are available by clicking here.

Why are Bradbeers less expensive than most other rental companies?
As we are also major retailers our purchasing power is greater than most other companies. This is reflected in the prices you are quoted. In addition all Bradbeers products are covered by a price-match scheme.

What if I decide I would prefer to buy furniture?
Apart from providing rental furniture Bradbeers have retail showrooms and supply the ā€œbuy-to-letā€ industry as well as developers with individual items or complete home furnishes. We are pleased to extend this service nationally to individuals by providing new or ex-rental furnishings.

Are the goods insured?
As you will be responsible for the rental items it is recommended that you arrange insurance cover for the total contents. See terms and conditions.

Do I have to pay a deposit?
Yes, the amount will be shown on your quotation.

How do I pay?
Monthly in advance by standing order, credit card, BACS or cheque.

How do I terminate the hire?
See terms and conditions.

What if I have to terminate before the agreed minimum hire period?
No problem, as long as seven working days notice of collection are provided. However, charges relating to the balance of your minimum hire period will be due at that time.

What if I need to extend the hire period?
No problem. Monthly extension is at the existing rate but if there is a long-term commitment a discount may apply.

Why don't Bradbeers produce their own packs?
Because we believe in allowing clients to have freedom of choice and only pay for what they require. Client prepared packs are available however if you don't have time to select your own inventory. Just ask for details.

What are Bradbeers terms and conditions?

Will your crew set up the furniture and pack/unpack the small items?
Yes, they are experienced removalists.
