Formed in 1919 by John Seccombe, along the street where his father worked in Birmingham, he opened a factory using his war gratuity producing only pillows, straw palliasses and flock mattresses.
During the 1920's, Seccombe was joined by his brother and the first spring filled mattress was manufactured a few years later. The company has continued to grow since the industry breakthrough in 1964, the perfecting of Posture Springing. This development meant that each row of springs is cocooned by its own pocket for continued comfort.
Slumberland has also been responsible for many firsts in the industry including the first company to introduce drawers into divan bases. in 1999, it became the first brand to launch the anti-dust mite bed and pioneered the no-turn sprung mattress.
Slumberland is now based in Cambridgeshire and continues to develop and innovate and is now honoured by the Forestry Stewardship Council for their continual environmental responsibility work.
